Affiliate links don’t work if no one knows you exist
HERE’S WHAT I’VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THIS WEEK
You ever try to quietly share something online and then feel weird about it five minutes later?
Like you finally posted the link to that thing you like. You didn’t oversell it. You didn’t make a big deal.
Just a quiet “Hey, I found this helpful, might help you too.”
And then you deleted it ten minutes later because it “felt weird.”
I’ve been thinking about that feeling lately.
The mix of “I don’t want to annoy anyone,” plus “I hope someone sees this,” plus “I’ll probably just post it again later when I have more time and energy and it feels right.”
Spoiler: it never feels more right. You just get better at avoiding it.
The irony is, you’re building this thing on the side because you want more freedom.
More space. More time to do work that actually feels good.
But the second it comes to sharing that thing?
You disappear into the background like it’s a group project and you’re hoping someone else will present it.
HERE’S WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT
This week, do one small thing: mention the thing you love twice.
Not once. Twice.
Once in a post (or an email, or a text to your cousin).
And once again, two days later.
Same thing. No need to reword it or fancy it up.
Because the truth is: one quiet share doesn’t do much. People miss it. Scroll past it. Or think “I’ll check that out later” and forget.
But when you bring something up more than once, it shifts. It goes from “background noise” to “huh, maybe I should look into that.”
And if that makes you cringe a little? That’s fine.
You don’t need to be loud. You just need to be visible.
Here’s the trick I use when my brain tries to guilt-trip me for being “salesy”:
I write like I’m texting a friend who asked for help.
Would I tell them once and never again? No.
I’d remind them. I’d follow up. I’d say, “Hey, that thing I mentioned earlier? Here’s the link again in case you missed it.”
That’s it. Do that.
No launch. No fancy sales funnel. No Canva graphics or content plan.
Just one helpful thing, shared twice.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DO THIS
The first time, nothing might happen. Don’t read into it.
That doesn’t mean the product’s bad. Or that you’re not cut out for this. Or that nobody cares.
It just means they didn’t see it, or they weren’t ready.
But the second time? You might get a message. Or a reply. Or a click.
It’s a shift. Small but real.
And when you see that tiny flicker of response, it gives you something more valuable than a commission.
It gives you momentum.
You stop wondering “Is anyone out there?”
And start thinking, “Okay. Maybe I can do this after all.”
NEXT STEP
If you’ve got a product you use and like, pick one.
Share it somewhere. Anywhere.
Then share it again later this week.
It doesn’t have to be deep. You can literally say, “I’ve been using this again and it’s still helpful.”
If you don’t have a product? Try writing down one thing you use weekly and look up if they have an affiliate program. You’ll be surprised how many do.
Then come back and tell me what you shared. I want to hear it.
A HELPFUL BIT
Not sure what to say?
Start with this:
“This has helped me stay sane this week, so I figured I’d share it.”
Simple. Honest. Not pushy.
If you’re on email, use the subject line: “Something that’s actually working for me this week.”
Low pressure. High trust.
REPEATABLE PROVERB
You can’t make sales from the shadows. Visibility beats perfection.
FUN FACT
More than 30% of affiliate marketers make their first sale after their fifth time promoting the same product.
Not because the offer changed — but because they stopped being scared to share it again.
Turns out consistency is more important than creativity.
3 SUBJECT LINES + PREHEADERS
Subject: That awkward moment you actually post your affiliate link
Preheader: …and then immediately regret it. Let’s fix that.
Subject: Why no one’s clicking your links
Preheader: Hint: It’s not the algorithm. Or your timing.
Subject: What if you just… shared it twice?
Preheader: Not louder. Not better. Just again.
