Something Was Wrong Before You Bought It

It wasn't a bad system

The thing you bought last time.

Or the time before.

Probably wasn't garbage. Probably worked for someone.

That someone just wasn't you.

(I know that sounds like something you'd put on a fridge magnet. Bear with me.)

The system needed a person who could post on social media without feeling mildly insane. Or someone who doesn't mind living in their DMs. Or someone who runs their week off a color-coded calendar and somehow enjoys looking at it.

Maybe that's you. If so, you're fine. Carry on.

If it's not you, you bought something that was going to fail before you even opened the login email.

The flinch

There was a moment, before you bought it, where something felt off.

Not dramatic. Nothing you could name. Just a small hesitation. A quiet "I don't know about this."

Then the sales page kept going.

The testimonials looked clean. The logic held up. Someone in a webinar made it sound like the whole thing assembled itself.

So you ignored it and bought.

(We all do this. The pitch doesn't stop because you had a weird feeling. And you were tired of being stuck. So.)

Then it doesn't work

Three weeks in. Maybe four.

Long enough to think it might take. Short enough that it hasn't yet.

And you're already dragging your feet on the parts that were supposed to be simple.

So you blame yourself. Discipline. Consistency. Didn't want it badly enough.

Maybe.

Sometimes people do quit before it clicks. That's real.

But sometimes the system quietly depended on you being someone you're not. And no amount of discipline fixes a mismatch.

You can guilt yourself into doing the work. I've done it. It helps for about a week and a half.

Long term, your actual wiring wins.

The question that would've helped

Not "will this work."

Not "is it proven."

Just: does this require me to act in a way I can't keep up for more than a month?

Annoyingly simple. I know.

(The expensive lessons usually are, in hindsight. That's what makes them annoying.)

Something can be legitimate, well-reviewed, and totally wrong for you. Those aren't contradictions. They just feel like it when you're standing in the wreckage of another half-finished system wondering what's wrong with you.

Nothing's wrong with you. You bought the wrong fit. Again.

Why it's harder to see this after you buy

Because now you've spent the money.

Now you want it to be right. Now admitting the mismatch means admitting you saw it coming.

So you keep going. Or half-go, which is worse. Busy enough to feel responsible. Miserable enough to know it's not working.

(That combination is its own special kind of stuck. Not failing, not succeeding. Just spinning.)

What the questionnaire is actually for

It's not a personality quiz. It's not a vibe check.

It slows things down long enough to look at the pattern. What you keep doing. What keeps not working. Whether the next thing you're considering quietly needs you to become someone else.

Because that gets expensive.
